DARPA

Dr. Andrew Detor joined DARPA as a program manager in the Defense Sciences Office (DSO) in September 2022. He was formerly a senior principal scientist at General Electric (GE), leading advanced material development programs and the company’s materials informatics strategy.

During his 14-year career at GE, Andrew led teams to successfully transition lab-scale research to commercial application across a range of products including industrial gas turbines and aircraft engines. He has experience in high-temperature metal alloys and manufacturing methods spanning traditional forging operations to the latest additive technologies.

While at DARPA, Andrew is interested in exploring new possibilities at the intersection of materials science, manufacturing, and system design to enable unmatched sustainability and performance in extreme environment applications.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a doctorate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, both in materials science and engineering.
