The Workforce Development (WD) focus area advocates for and encourages ISAM-enabled training, certifications, coursework, and degrees for the U.S. workforce, and employs grants, incentives, and internships where applicable.

This focus area maintains and follows an outreach/communications plan that includes partnerships with academic institutions, other non-profit organizations, government agencies, and commercial industry to encourage ISAM-enabled research, sponsor graduate and undergraduate research, and establish independent certifications for skilled laborers supporting key ISAM capabilities.

The flagship effort of the WD FA is the COSMIC Capstone Challenge (C3), a competition that invites students to develop conceptual missions & designs for spacecraft operations in-orbit or on the lunar surface.
