Virtual Convergence Was A Success! 

COSMIC’s 2024 December Virtual Convergence brought together nearly 250 ISAM-practitioners to share ideas, insights, and innovations to further advance US leadership in space.   

Topics discussed ranged from taxonomies and lexicons to tech use cases and accessible demonstration infrastructure. ISAM capabilities represent some of the most difficult challenges to address in space and ensuring that innovators, suppliers, and customers are all operating on common understandings that is crucial to domestic advancement.

Upcoming COSMIC Programming  

June Convergence Announced 

The COSMIC community will come together in-person on June 4th and 5th in Los Angeles, California for the Second Annual COSMIC Convergence. There will be presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities as we continue in our mission to advance domestic ISAM capabilities for a sustainable and scalable space ecosystem.  

Please save the dates. A formal registration will be sent out in the new year. 


COSMIC at AIAA SciTech Meet Up 

A number of COSMIC members and ISAM supporters will be in attendance for the upcoming AIAA Sci-Tech Conference from January 6-10, 2025, in Orlando, FL.  

COSMIC’s Academic Caucus Chair, Seetha Ragavan, and Monty Greer will be hosting a COSMIC gathering on Wednesday, Jan 8th from 6-8pm ET in Discovery 46. 

If you plan to attend, even if you are not a COSMIC member, please let us know and we will send you a custom program of all the ISAM related content for the conference.

COSMIC Community Briefing 

On Friday, January 31st at 1pm ET COSMIC Community Briefing will feature Chase Hamilton from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP on Export Control for ISAM and Lee Rosen from ThinkOrbital on Autonomous Welding. 


COSMIC Working Group Meetings 

The Research & Technology Focus Area meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 15th at 1pm ET / 10am PT.  

The Workforce Development Focus Area meeting will be held on Thursday, January 16th at 12pm ET / 9am PT. 

The Policy & Regulation Focus Area meeting will be held on Thursday, January 21st  at 2pm ET / 11am PT.  

The Missions & Ecosystems Focus Area meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd at 1pm ET / 10am PT.  

The Demonstration Infrastructure Focus Area meeting will be held on Thursday, January 23rd at 2pm ET / 11am PT.  


COSMIC Capstone Challenge (C3) Flash Talks 

On December 9th, COSMIC’s Workforce Development Focus Area hosted the First Annual COSMIC Capstone Challenge (C3) Midpoint Showcase Flash Talks. Thirty-three groups of college and high school students showcased their progress in a national competition to develop In-space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) concepts.  

The competition saw student leaders present their knowledge and ingenuity by developing payloads that demonstrate a chain of three or more operations providing on-orbit autonomous ISAM capability.

Space Mobility Conference 

The Space Mobility Conference will be hosted on January 28-30, 2025, in Orlando, FL and host COSMIC CME as a presenter in addition to their programming featuring COSMIC members. Find out more at spacemobility.org/ 

South by SouthWest (SXSW)  

On Friday, March 7 at 11:30am CT, SXSW will host an ISAM panel entitled Building and Fixing Things In Space With Robotics. COSMIC’s Executive Director Greg Richardson will moderate a discussion on ISAM technologies entitled “Building and Fixing Things In Space With Robotics”. The  with panelists will be: Trudy Kortes, Director, Technology Demonstrations, NASA, Meera Day-Towler, Space Robotics Program Manager – Intelligent Systems Division, Southwest Research Institute, Jeff Schloemer, Senior Director of Engineering, Astroscale US. AFRL 2025 Space Technologies Technology Interchange Meeting 

During the week of 24-28 March 2025, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), on behalf of the DoD Space Community of Interest (COI), will host a virtual technology interchange meeting (TIM) with industry partners invested in space-related technologies. This invitation is open to all domestic (US) partners with IR&D and other corporate investments in science and technology, including large and small businesses, academia, National Labs, and FFRDCs with a current certified DD Form 2345 (Military Critical Technical Data Agreement).
